NSW – The First State Government with a Reuse & Repair Strategy

Red background with cartoon yellow t-shirt and wool

The NSW Environment Protection Authority is again taking the lead on reuse as the first Australian state government to develop and roll out a NSW Reuse & Repair Strategy to scale up the reuse sector.

This is true circular economy leadership because reuse and repair is essential for a circular economy.

Charitable Reuse Australia is pleased to have been part of the partnership with NSW EPA to help inform the need and evidence case for reuse in policy settings, with our two Reuse Codesign Policy Workshops co-hosted with NSW EPA over the past 18 months a well as the ground-breaking NSW Reuse Data Study.

Huge thanks to our NSW Codesign Policy Partners who worked collectively on the workshops, and hosted educational reuse and repair site visits for NSW EPA:

  • Salvos Stores
  • Vinnies NSW
  • Reverse Garbage
  • UTurn Reuse (formerly King Cotton)
  • SSROC
  • Bower Reuse & Repair Centre
  • Thread Together

Special thanks also to John Gertsakis of the Product Stewardship Centre of Excellence for sharing his expertise through these workshops, and his commitment to highest and best use interventions.

Charitable Reuse Australia advocates that every State and Commonwealth Government must have a Reuse & Repair Strategy, and that both reuse and repair need to be embedded in policy to drive the transition to a circular economy.
