With 142 delegates, the 2019 NACRO Conference was the biggest gathering of the charitable reuse, recycling and retail sector ever seen in Australia. And the calibre of the speakers and opportunity to collaborate and network grew from last year, and included a wide range of stakeholders from NACRO members, social enterprises, government, councils and commercial organisations.
John Bradley, Secretary at Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning formally opened the conference on Monday 14 October, on behalf of The Hon Lily D’Ambrosio, Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change with his keynote address, acknowledging the charitable reuse, recycling and retail sector as long-standing practitioners of the Circular Economy and recognition of NACRO’s work on behalf of the sector. This was followed by an impressive line up of expert speakers and panels discussing how to realise 2020 Future Vision for the reuse, recycling and retail sector.
The previous year’s initial sessions on The Future of Recycling were developed with practical strategies and learnings on how charitable recycling organisations can effectively tackle the challenges facing our sector and move into the 2020 future with robust strategies, and operational plans.
The successful conference format saw Day 1 focus on Recycling/Reuse, and Day 2 on Retail/Responsible Donating.
