Op shops are a way of life in Aotearoa New Zealand. They deliver environmental, social, and economic value simultaneously. The Founding Members agreed that the first project of Charitable Reuse Aotearoa will be to provide the Ministry for Environment and other stakeholders, a credible snapshot of the size and impact of the charitable reuse sector in New Zealand.
The Aotearoa Reuse Impact Study is an initiative of Charitable Reuse Aotearoa. Rawtec has been engaged to conduct the research, given their successful work on the WA, NSW, TAS and SA studies.
This data was collected via survey responses from five key Aotearoa Op shops: Habitat For Humanity, Hato Hone St John, Hospice New Zealand, The Salvation Army New Zealand, and SPCA. These five organisations accounted for 61% of the charitable reuse shops in Aotearoa New Zealand.
